Welcome Our New Rabbi!
RCBI Welcomes Rabbi Jacob Lieberman
A California native, Jacob grew up in Reform and Reconstructionist congregations in Irvine, CA, before heading east for school. Synagogue, study, and service sparked deep commitments in Jacob, who fell in love with Judaism and the search for meaning, connection, and purpose in our world.
While in school, Jacob served as rabbinic intern in Hillels at Temple University and Swarthmore College, at Reconstructionist congregation Temple Beth El in Newark, DE, and with LimmudPhilly. Jacob also served the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College as co-chair of the Student Leadership Campaign, student representative to the Board of Governors, and founder of the Transgender and Genderqueer committee (tGq), now in its 5th year. As part of his studies, Jacob joyfully spent a year living and learning in Israel.
Prior to rabbinical school, Jacob spent over 8 years working for economic and social justice. As Director of Pride in Action at the Empire State Pride Agenda, Jacob managed a team of program and organizing professionals developing ally support in faith, labor and business communities. Additionally, he worked as a lead organizer and business representative in several unions, including SEIU Local 32BJ and Local 6 of the New York Hotel Trades Council. Jacob is a graduate of Barnard College.
